Why Choose MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® Decking?

Why MOSO® X‑treme® Decking?
Because it is elegant, stable, cost‑effective, durable, California WUA fire‑rated, eco‑friendly, sustainable and more...

What is important to consider when choosing a decking solution?

Historically, a variety of materials have been used for exterior decking such as wood (oak or pine), reclaimed plastic composites, PVC—capped polymers (e.g., TREX), and non-sustainable exotics such as Ipé which take 100 years to reach commercial logging size. Numerous factors impact the decision to purchase a particular decking material, including your personal values and goals.

Questions to ask before investing in decking:

  • How durable is it?
  • How hot does it get on tiny feet/paws?
  • Is it fire‑rated?
  • How does it weather?
  • Is it mold/mildew/moisture resistant?
  • Is it insect resistant?
  • What is the cost, including installation?
  • How easy is it to install/maintain?
  • What is the environmental impact?

Additional Decking Considerations

A deck is much more than a back porch. It is an entertainment and family gathering space that extends your living area, adding value to your home. A well-planned deck can recoup as much as 102% of your investment*. Most decking materials come in varying board lengths. Because of this, design becomes extremely important to reduce waste. MOSO Bamboo X-treme Decking comes in 6' lengths, reducing design time and waste, while inspiring creativity.

All decks require a basic structure to support the

decking boards. While footers/joist systems are historically permanent solutions, Products Direct® is proud to offer both permanent and portable installation options. The hidden fastener clip system shown in Figure 1 is used in installations with conventional joist systems. When paired with our proprietary MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® end-match system, stability between joists is maintained while installation time is cut by up to 30%.

The second installation option (Figure 2) is the MOSO® by Grad System which offers a permanent or portable installation option.

How does MOSO® X‑treme® Decking compare to other types of decking materials available today?

Ipé is a categorical name for a number of tropical hardwoods. In general, one Ipé tree will grow on an acre of land, reaching maturity in 70-80 years. While the yield per tree is significant—960 board feet per 80 ft / 1ft diameter tree—harvesting requires the destruction of surrounding trees, creating significant defoliation.

Bamboo is a fast growing grass, reaching maturity of 70-80ft in height in 6-8 years. A mature plant will produce 10 mature stalks per year over a 60 year lifespan.

Dave Fraser is interviewed by Brett Kelly about the unique advantages of using Moso® Bamboo X-treme® decking, including ease of installation and less waste.

The bottom line is that shoppers want and need a decking solution that is safe, environmentally responsible, durable, and easy to maintain, at a price point that positively impacts value.
