Why MOSO® X‑treme® Privacy Fencing?

What is important to consider when choosing a privacy screen solution?

Historically, a variety of materials have been used for exterior fencing and privacy screens such as wood (typically pine), reclaimed plastic composites, and PVC—capped polymers (e.g., TREX). When selecting the material that is right for you, we know your personal values and goals play an important role in your decision; and, we are here to answer any questions you may have.

Questions to ask before investing in fencing:

  • How durable is it?
  • Is it fire‑rated?
  • How does it weather?
  • Is it mold/mildew/moisture resistant?
  • Is it insect resistant?
  • How easy is it to install/maintain?
  • What is the environmental impact?

Additional Privacy Screen Considerations

A privacy screen protects your entertainment and family gathering spaces, giving a sense of intimacy to your outdoor living areas, while adding value to your home. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® fencing comes in 6' lengths, reducing installation time and waste (see figure 1). The fence boards, equipped with a tongue/groove connection, are mounted between posts with U-profiles (not provided by MOSO®). Like any untreated tropical hardwood species, when exposed to outdoor conditions, MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® will turn grey over time creating a very beautiful and natural look.

MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® fence boards are solid, Thermo-Density® exterior planks, made from compressed bamboo strips. A special, unique heat-treatment process at 392°F (200°C) provides MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® with the highest durability class possible* and increases the hardness and stability of your finished project.

Figure 2 shows the tongue and groove style of the MOSO Bamboo X-treme fencing. Using the 3rd party supports (shown in Figure 1), installation is a snap, and in no time you will have a gorgeous privacy screen that is durable* and elegant.

*MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products meet and/or exceed all appropriate European Standards and carry a 25 year Warranty

How does MOSO® X‑treme® fencing compare to other types of privacy screen materials available today?

Ipé is a categorical name for a number of tropical hardwoods. In general, one Ipé tree will grow on an acre of land, reaching maturity in 70-80 years. While the yield per tree is significant—960 board feet per 80 ft / 1ft diameter tree—harvesting requires the destruction of surrounding trees, creating significant defoliation.

Bamboo is a fast growing grass, reaching maturity of 70-80ft in height in 6-8 years. A mature plant will produce 10 mature stalks per year over a 60 year lifespan.

Brett Kelly talks about the various uses of Moso® Bamboo X-treme® products including fence boards that slide into slotted metal U-Channels for privacy screens and fencing applications.

The bottom line is that shoppers want and need a decking solution that is safe, environmentally responsible, durable, and easy to maintain, at a price point that positively impacts value.
