Products Direct® manufacturer's, Shaw®, Valley Forge® and Mannington® , have hardwood flooring products that arrive with finishing treatments already applied to the hardwood materials to protect them from stains, discoloration and water penetration. The surface seal is stronger and more durable when it is applied at the factory; the maintenance of these floors is easier. They tend to be more impervious to stains, moisture, and other discolorations than floors that are finished on-site. While site-applied finishes are typically warranted for 3-5 years, factory-applied treatments may have warranties of 5-25 years or more.
Products Direct® engineered hardwood flooring is a layered product made of an actual thin slice of hardwood on top of a base of high-quality plywood. The thickness, depending on the wood chosen, ranges from ⅜” to ½.” Manufacturers like Shaw Flooring® and Mannington® offer engineered wood flooring that is a prefinished hardwood. The surface can be sanded and installation is easier than solid hardwood because of the multiple methods that can be used. Resale value is high and overall durability of engineered hardwood is good because of its ability to hold up to limited moisture.
